What's inside?
Sabotage is an escalating threat to businesses, with activist groups such as Extinction Rebellion (XR) and Palestine Action (PA) employing increasingly aggressive tactics to hinder business operations and often cause physical damage. This briefing examines the growing risk of sabotage in the UK, with a particular focus on PA, who have become notorious for their disruptive methods towards Israeli-linked businesses and individuals.
Case Study: Palestine Action
PA has grown in prominence over the last few years for their targeting of businesses with alleged links to Israel. PA identifies itself as “a direct action movement committed to ending global participation in Israel’s genocidal and apartheid regime. Using disruptive tactics, PA targets corporate enablers of the Israeli military-industrial complex and seeks to make it impossible for these companies to profit from the oppression of Palestinians.”
According to data from the Armed Conflict Location and Event Data Project (ACLED), PA’s UK activity peaked dramatically in 2024, with 55 recorded events accounting for 57% of their total actions. This represents a marked increase compared to their 24 events in 2021 (25% of total).
After declining in 2022-2023, the group experienced a significant resurgence in 2024, aligned with heightened military activity in Palestine following the October 2023 escalation.
